My Therapeutic Approaches
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT is a well-researched treatment with proven effectiveness for a wide range of mental health needs, such as:
-
Social anxiety
-
Generalised anxiety
-
Health anxiety
-
Panic
-
Specific phobias
-
Obsessive compulsive disorder
-
Depression
-
Low self-esteem
-
Post-traumatic stress disorder
CBT is based upon the principle that certain experiences lead us to develop unhelpful thoughts about ourselves, others and the world. These thoughts and deeper beliefs increase our distress, and we may engage in unhelpful behaviours in attempt to reduce or avoid difficult emotions. As a result, we can get stuck in a cycle that is hard to break out of, preventing us from living life freely and achieving our goals.

Although I predominantly use CBT, I also integrate techniques from ACT & CFT to suit your individual needs. I have experience working in a wide range of services, such as neurodevelopmental and forensic, therefore I can adapt my approach for the following concerns:
-
Neurodevelopmental needs such as autism & ADHD
-
Difficulties with emotion regulation
Compassion Focused Therapy
CFT helps us to develop self-compassion and reduce self-criticism, which are often the core of social anxiety and low self-esteem. It encourages individuals to replace that harsh inner voice with a more supportive and kinder one. Basically… CFT teaches you to be your own cheerleader instead of your worst critic, because beating ourselves up has never actually helped.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT helps us accept difficult thoughts and emotions rather than struggle against them. Instead of trying to eliminate anxiety or self-doubt, ACT encourages individuals to focus on their values and take action to live a life a life meaningful to them despite feeling discomfort. Basically…ACT teaches you to stop arguing with your brain, focus on what matters and take action (even if your thoughts are being unhelpful backseat drivers).

FAQS
-
Do you offer face to face sessions?Currently, I only offer online therapy sessions via Zoom. Research has shown online therapy is just as effective as in person, with the added convenience and flexibility from your home.
-
How often will we have sessions?I meet with most of my clients on a weekly basis. This is particularly helpful when getting started so we can build momentum and progress towards your goals quicker. As you gain confidence and develop new ways of living, we may space out sessions to biweekly or monthly. Throughout therapy we can check in and adjust the schedule based on what feels more helpful for you. If you have specific preferences or needs, we can discuss them together to find the best approach.
-
How long will our therapy last?It varies for each person depending on their individual needs. CBT is goal orientated and clients often notice progress within the first 6 sessions. A typical course of CBT ranges from 6-12 sessions, though some people benefit from longer term therapy and that's ok. We can review your progress regularly and adjust to suit your needs.
-
What happens in our first session? In our first session, we'll get to know each other and discuss what brings you to therapy. I'll ask some questions to understand your challenges, goals and what you would like to get out of therapy. It is also a chance for you to ask questions and see if CBT feels like the right fit for you. We can then make a plan for moving forward.
-
How do I know if you're the right fit for me?Finding the right therapist is essential for effective therapy. Take a look at my 5 core values on my 'About Me' page to see if my style sounds like it would suit your needs. Throughout therapy, we will pause to reflect on whether you feel comfortable and supported in the space. If at any point you feel like our approach isn't working for you, we can unpick this together. I'm always open to adjusting my approach or discussing whether another therapist might be better suited.
-
Do you offer reduced rates?I understand that therapy is an investment, and I want it to be as accessible as possible. However, I cannot provide a good service if I am overstretched. High quality CBT requires preparation time and I keep up to date with new training and research so I can provide a effective personalised care.
